Chinese Astrology: The Year of the Horse — First Horse Year in the Cycle
In Chinese astrology, the Horse is the seventh animal in the 12-year zodiac cycle. When we talk about the ‘first’ Horse year, we’re really talking about the first time the Horse appears in the repeating zodiac sequence — a marker of momentum, movement, and the urge to follow your own path.
Horse energy is associated with independence, vitality, and a strong inner drive. It’s the kind of year that can feel like a tailwind: ideas move faster, plans want action, and you may feel called to take a brave step forward rather than waiting for perfect certainty.
In traditional Chinese metaphysics, each zodiac year also combines with one of the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water), creating a 60-year cycle. That means every Horse year has its own ‘flavour’ — for example, a Fire Horse year carries a more intense, passionate charge than a Metal Horse year, which can feel more disciplined and focused.
If you’re reflecting on a Horse year (past or present), consider these gentle prompts:
Where am I craving freedom? What would it look like to move with confidence, but still stay grounded? And what daily practice helps me regulate my energy so I don’t burn out while I’m in motion?
I have also researched into the 2026 heat dome over Europe and that coincides El Niño declared for 2026 as Pacific ocean warms. In the UK conditions will emerge between June & August raising temperatures into the 30's for long periods. One thing is as weather patterns emerge fact based science evolves and gives real data. The connection is interesting; both are bringing unprecedented weather extremes, heat waves, and intense wildfire seasons worldwide, this autumn could be milder, wetter and many feng shui and medical practitioners recommend balancing this overwhelming "fire" energy by adopting water-element practices, such as increasing hydration, resting, and meditating.
What has become your reality so far this year? Are you noticing what's going on around you as a spiritual mirror or simply as a seasonal theme? The Horse invites you to trust your instincts, keep your heart open, and take one clear step at a time. Discovery energy sessions can be a useful way to apply and understand your own thoughts, feelings & intuition. These are an essential part of any coaching and reiki healing session booked with me.
